ACT today, for a better tomorrow

Assurance and traceability are important tools in the work for sustainable development. Both are provided by a number of certifications. But getting certified isn’t as easy and straightforward as it may sound. It takes a lot of effort and time, and sometimes you need a helping hand to reach your goals.

Diving headfirst into the industry

In 2020, ACT today was founded, because a group of people wanted to challenge an industry filled with fast fashion. They built a company with design process in Denmark, and production in Europe, and a concept based on wardrobe staples so comfortable that you’ll treasure them forever.

A year later, in 2021, the current owners, Annette & Lars, took over, they had ambitions. Lars came from the accountant world, and Anette came from marketing, but none of them had any previous experiences with the fashion industry.

While there were many unknown factors, as newcomers in a fast-moving industry, one thing was crystal clear: the work for sustainable development would be a corner stone in their approach.

Our mindset and vision is all of us taking a moment to think twice, not just producing things quickly, but producing the right things that will last. As newcomers in the industry, it’s not easy to just come in and change the entire industry, but we firmly believe that’s the direction we need.”

Carrying out visions and putting the time and manpower into the work

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), is by many considered a leading industry standard, because of its holistic approach to sustainability.  And to some, being GOTS certified provides a sense of security. ACT today were already close to the finish line.

”The warehouse and logistics platform connected to our brand was GOTS certified, but ACT today did not hold its own certificate.  Our idea and mindset with the brand was clear, but we had a major task in getting the brand GOTS certified and developing the brand accordingly.”

But a helping hand was needed to navigate the brand-new process.

Luckily, the timing was just right. The Danish sustainability funding initiative SMV:Grøn had just launched, and ACT today decided to use it to find someone who could help them getting certified.

Through the program, they found Sustaina Company, and they started their journey with Sustaina Company’s certification expert Nanna as the summer of 2022 was coming to an end.

A helping hand

Much was done in the coming seven months. Throughout the process, ACT today has used Sustaina Company for advice and guidance on occurring issues and challenges, as they have faced them.

Nanna helped them prepare the necessary documents, trained them in the contents of the standard, and prepared them for the big finale with a trial audit.

”We really liked the process with Nanna, as we were presented with a vast universe of possibilities, but we were also guided in the right direction. It is definitely the strength of what we paid for. We have reached our goal on time and without any remarks.”
